The President of Diyarbakır Bar, the defender of human rights, the participant of credentials committee of Human Rights Institution of Turkey, Mr. Tahir Elçi, lost his life today (11.28. 2015) in the arm conflict occured during his statement intended for the protection of humanity's common heritage in Diyarbakır, in the vicinity of Dört Ayaklı Minare (Four-Footed Minaret).
It is beyond doubt that, by this attack carried out, the fundamental rights and freedoms and the democracy and social peace are being targeted.
Our sadness is eternal. We wish God’s mercy and grace to the deceased Tahir Elçi and to the Police Officer Ahmet Çiftaslan who died in the same attack; wish patience and fortitude to their relatives, lovings, human rights defenders, the legal community and our nation; and wish a quick recovery to the injured persons.
The absence of the deceased Elçi will always be felt in the fields of law, justice and human rights struggle.
Solution of any social problem through weapons and violence is not possible; therefore, it is our common belief that the solution of problems should be sought in civil, democratic and negotiant methods.
All sectors and the official authorities have to act cooperatively and to swiftly in order to clarify the events entirely, and conduct a transparent and effective investigation.
